Abstract

The 1950 decade saw the start of a major increase in the use of electronics, and subsequently computers, in the control of machines of a major and increase in particular of production machinery. This concept of an inter-disciplinary approach to machine technology has been termed Mechatronics . referring to an inter-disciplinary integrated discipline which systematically combines fine mechanical engineering with electronics an integrated and computer discipline control. Which Within the 1980 decade, the design of increasingly complex networks using standard semiconductor devices has been augmented by the introduction of the ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) which enables circuit designers to configure individual networks onto basic integrated circuits for specific applications. This paper discusses the background to the introduction and development of both mechatronics and ASICS, a combination now round referred to as super mechatronics, giving examples of applications relevant to manufacturing technology, and indicating likely moves in the future.
