The high-energy ball milling of Ti, Nb and Cu powders in liquid hydrocarbon and magnetic pulse compaction have been successfully used to produce Ti2CH0.6–(CuTi2,CuTi) and NbC–Cu composites with a density of 94–97% of the theoretical value, a microhardness of 4–5GPa and high abrasive wear resistance
