Abstract

Purpose: Neurodynamic tests (NDTs) are used to detect heightened nerve mechanosensitivity (HNM) in people with a range of conditions. However, recently, studies have shown that NDTs may be negative in the presence of loss of sensory nerve function in people with carpal tunnel syndrome and type 2 diabetes. It is not known if this also occurs in people with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) from type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). The primary aim of the study was to determine the proportion of people with T1DM and DPN with heightened nerve mechanosensitivity (HNM).
