Abstract

• Elastic PDLCs based on cross-linked PU, PDMS and plasticized PVA were prepared. • Their stretching causes the changes in color and intensity of selective light reflection. • These effects is explained by a compression of cholesteric droplets during stretching. • Planar orientation of LC molecules is preferable for mechano-optical response. • PU composites are the most promising for the applications.
