Abstract

The authors report the synthesis of a series of carbazole-based donor-acceptor dyes and the characterization of their mechanofluorochromic properties. Utilizing mechanical stimuli to modulate the photophysical properties of materials by reorganization of intermolecular interactions could prove to be a powerful concept in materials design. Potential applications ranging from rewritable materials to electroluminescent devices could be envisioned.
