Abstract

Abstract The ternary lithium transition metal nitrides LiNiN, Li3FeN2, Li5TiN3 and Li7VN5 were prepared mechanochemically from a mixture of Li3N and the appropriate transition metal or its nitride. In each case an intermediate material formed after milling, which transformed into the corresponding ternary nitride upon annealing. Powder X-ray diffraction measurements indicate that the products were formed free from significant impurities or residual unreacted starting materials.
