Abstract

Nanosized lead titanate (PT) powders have been successfully prepared via a novel mechanochemical synthesis route, which skips the phase-forming calcination at a temperature in the range of 700°C to 800°C that is always required for the solid state reaction. The novel fabrication technique uses the low-cost and widely available oxide powders as the starting materials, and the formation of designed PT perovskite phase is triggered by mechanical activation instead of calcination at an elevated temperature. Upon mechanochemically activation for more than 10 h, a well dispersed powder consisting of PT particles of 20–30 nm in size was obtained.
