Abstract
cis-Decalin and trans-decalin were photooxidized in chloroform by sunlight in the presence of anthraquinone as sensitizer. The main photosensitized oxidation mechanisms, which act on all the carbon atoms of these molecules, were described and it appeared that steric factors strongly influenced their selectivity. An interesting photoisomerization mechanism of cis-1-decalone and trans-1-decalone was also proposed.
