Abstract

The present work deals with a study of interactions between reactions of photo-oxidation and reactions of bacterial degradation of alkylbenzenes (particularly of n-nonylbenzene) in seawater. The mechanisms involved in these interactions have been determined, and it was proved that these phenomena allow an accelerated elimination of the substrate due to the use of photo-oxidation products of n-nonylbenzene by the bacteria and also due to the photo-chemical enhancement of the assimilation of some metabolites of the substrate.
