Abstract

Even the simplest F+ transfer reactions can involve complex reaction paths and several distinct intermediates. This is exemplified by the spin-forbidden reaction shown below [Eq. (1)], which was investigated in the gas phase by mass spectrometry and theoretical calculations. The mechanistic implications of this model process for oxidative fluorination reactions in solution are also discussed.
