Abstract

1. The mechanism of the radiolytic reduction of 1,3,5-triphenylformazan in isopropanol has been studied by pulse radiolysis. The principal primary process is the reduction of the formazan by the solvate electron and the\(Me_2 C\dot OH\) radical to from the corresponding anion-radical. 2. The optical absorption spectrum of the anion radical and the rate constants for the reactions of the formazan with es− and\(Me_2 C\dot OH\) have been measured. The latter are equal to (3.3±1.1) × 1010 and (1.7±0.2)×108 liter/mole·sec, respectively.
