Abstract

1. A comparative study has been made of the processes involved in formation of the colored form of spiropyran under UV and the pulsed electron beam excitation and kinetic calculations carried out on the photochrome processes following excitation. 2. The absorption band for the merocyanine form is complex, arising from at least three mutually interacting stereoisomers. A scheme for the interaction of these isomers is proposed. 3. There is an effective transfer of energy between solvent and spiropyran molecules, with colored form formation, under pulsed electron beam excitation.
