Abstract

An analytical study of secondary electron (S.E.) trajectories and a simulation of electron cascades were made for the C-shaped channel electron multiplier (C.E.M.), neglecting saturation phenomena in the tube. The results permit an interpretation of the gain variation as a function of the potential gradient. In particular, the quasi-gaussian pulse height distribution can be explained by electron multiplication characteristics without space charge or field distortion contributions.
