Abstract
Abstract The viscosity of carbon black suspended in GR-S solutions has been investigated in a Stormer-type viscometer at various rates of shear. Relative viscosities thus determined have been extrapolated to zero rate of shear and, by applying Einstein's viscosity equation, the volume of the suspended particles has been calculated. It has been found that, under the conditions examined, the carbon black particles are surrounded by a rubber layer 150 to 200 Ångstroms thick.
