Abstract

1. The modification of cast iron with metallic graphite spheroidizers having a high boiling point promotes the evolution of hydrogen from the liquid cast iron. 2. During vacuum remelting of unmodified cast iron an interaction with evolved gases takes place. 3. It is proposed that evolution of gases from the liquid cast iron in all methods of obtaining spheroidal graphite promotes homogenization of the cast iron at the modification temperature. 4. The mechanism of crystallization of spheroidal graphite consists of establishing the conditions for its diffusional crystallization out of a supercooled homogeneous liquid cast iron.
