Abstract

AbstractSome of the variables affecting the copolymerization of ethylene and butene‐in benzene using the soluble catalyst system bis‐(cyclopentadienyl)‐titanium dichloride and diethyl aluminium chloride were investigated. Aging of the catalyst mixture prior to the addition of the monomers had a significant effect on rate of reaction, polymer yield, molecular weight, and copolymer composition. The presence of at least two active catalyst species is postulated and a polymerization mechanism is presented and discussed.
