Abstract

Fundamental mechanisms involved in transpiration and evaporation are analyzed; manner in which physical factors in these mechanisms act to determine instantaneous transpiration rate, are examined by use of concepts of fluid mechanics; these factors are expressed in Darcy’s law, continuity equation, and power equation; variables in these equations are functions of soil, plant, and weather factors.
