Abstract

In line with the international efforts towards a further reduction of energy consumption and global emissions in the construction sector, cladding systems can play a key role thanks to their fundamental contribution to the overall building energy efficiency. In this framework, the paper elaborates on the application of a multidisciplinary approach towards the characterization of novel cladding panels made of an innovative acrylic-based solid surface material. Their performance has been assessed combining different mechanical, thermal and durability tests, showing promising results, for example, in terms of elasticity and resistance to severe environmental conditions, major wind loads or substantial thermal gradients.
