Abstract

Abstract This paper summarizes the results of mechanical research on typical fracture structure systems. It contains six special topics: the first one presents a nonlinear fracture criterion which may reflect more phenomena of fracture than classical criteria. The second to the fifth respectively introduce the derived mechanical conditions and tectonic stress fields forming conjugate fractures, en-echelon fractures, λ-type fractures, turbine-like or brush-like fractures, radiate-concentric fractures, ring-like or lotus-form structures, and the concerned laws or rules of each. Besides the descriptions to actual fracture systems, every topic lays emphasis on theoretical analysis and formulation. Those are applicable to quantitative analysis of fracture structures. Finally, the sixth introduces the application of the new proposed criterion and the theories and formulae of various typical fracture systems.
