Abstract

The aim of the work is to determine the mechanical properties of Ti3SiC2 - based ceramic materials. The samples were prepared by pressureless sintering (S) and hot pressing of the powders obtained by the SHS method. The material consisted of Ti3SiC2, TiC, TiSi2 and Ti2Si3. The phase composition was determined by X-ray diffraction and is listed in Table 1. Elastic properties (E, G, μ) of the samples were tested by the use of the pulse ultrasonic technique. The density (ρ) of the samples was determined by using the hydrostatic method. The load-independent and crack free Knoop hardness (H) values were used in the KIC (BPDS) calculations according to a formula for Palmqvist crack geometry. Also, the bending of the single edge notched beam method was used for KIC (ZG) determination. Moreover, the bending strength (σzg), impact strength (U) by the Charpy test and compressive strength (σśc) of the suitable specimens were determined. The fracture toughness of investigated materials ranged from 6,2 MPa ⋅ m
