Abstract
1. Loading tests of soil with a plate set at different depths, with measurement of the settlement of the plate itself and of the surrounding ground surface, and with determination of the ratio between total and restorable settlement, permits one to obtain very complete information on the mechanical properties of the soil and to find a basis for selecting the most appropriate model of a foundation bed.
