Abstract

1. From the temperature dependence of Ms of isothermal and athermal components of the martensitic transformation in relation to the carbon and nickel concentrations a relationship was established between the isothermal martensitic and isothermal bainitic transformations respectively in Fe−Ni alloys and nickel steels and also between the athermal and isothermal martensitic transformations. 2. Steels with 10% Ni treated to isothermal temper martensite and isothermal bainitic temper martensite have a higher impact strength at 20 and −196° than steels with the same strength treated to athermal temper martensite.
