Abstract

This paper describes the experimental studies on mechanical properties of steel fibre reinforced concrete using three types of steel fibres of different length and geometry. To produce high performance concrete different types and proportions of steel fibres are used. Two types of long hooked steel fibres and one type of short crimped steel fibre with length/aspect ratio of 30/60, 60/80 and 15/33 were utilized. These fibres are added by 1% by volume of concrete. Silica is used as a partial replacement of cement @ 8% by the weight of cement. Addition of 1% of super plasticizer allows the reduction of water cement ratio without affecting the workability of mixture. M30 grade concrete has been designed as per the codal provisions of IS 10262-2009. Water cement ratio was 0.40. Conventional concrete is compared with fibre reinforced concrete based on compressive strength of cube and split tensile strength of Cylinder and flexural strength of prism. The results showed significant improvement in the strengths of the cocktail fibre reinforced concrete due to the inclusion of micro fibre, macro fibre and silica fume.
