Abstract

Sandwich laminates are widely used in automobile and aircraft industries. In the present work, aluminum wire mesh reinforced polymer composite has been fabricated using hand lay-up process and mechanical proprieties such as tensile strength, flexural, impact are studied for their use in the field of structural applications. As per the ASTM standard all the test were conducted. The result shows that aluminium mesh reinforced Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) has more tensile, flexural and impact strength to withstand the load applied as compared with conventional carbon fiber and glass fiber composite materials. The wire mesh presented in the fabricated composite material resist the applied load. In this work 292.4 MPa of tensile strength was obtained. 300 N of flexural strength is obtained, 3.5 J/M of impact strength is obtained. The tested specimen clearly indicated that addition of aluminium wire mesh in carbon composites enhanced the mechanical properties.
