Abstract

Metal-matrix nano composites particularly the Graphene particle reinforced aluminum alloy based composites, have received considerable attention due to their attractive physical and other properties such as high strength, compressible property, tensile strength, and tribological characteristics. The current research work is aimed to synthesis composites with Graphene as reinforcement and aluminium alloy AA 2024 as matrix material. The consolidation is carried out through powder metallurgy (PM) and hot extrusion approach. The dispersion of Graphene is achieved through ultrasonic dispersion followed by ball milling. Hardness and SEM analysis was carried out on developed composites. Further, tensile strength measurement was performed on developed composites according to ASTM standards in Instron Universal Testing Machine. Improvement in the strength and possible reasons for crack initiations and fracture surface were extensively analysed to study the effect of reinforcement addition and its combinations in the aluminium alloy matrix.
