Abstract

Abstract Mechanical properties of C/C–SiC composite were investigated under tension, compression, flexural, Izod and Charpy impact tests. The result shows that the value of dynamic fracture toughness under Charpy impact test was 5 times higher than the Izod impact test, whereas static fracture toughness was more than the dynamic fracture toughness, because of variation of impact load and specimen holding conditions. Also, SEM results reveal that the strong interfacial bonding caused by the mismatch of thermal expansion coefficients between fibre and matrix. Finally, fibre debonds, fibre pull-out and fibre broken fractured were identified under SEM observations.
