Abstract

Three-dimensional (3D) migration of cells is often studied in artificial collagen matrices in in vitro cell migration experiments. It is usually assumed that the collagen matrix is homogeneous in terms of matrix scaffold structure and mechanical properties. Generally, the mechanics of the matrix is analyzed by global mechanical measurements. How the ratio and concentration of rat tail and skin collagen determines the matrix structure, mechanical properties, and thus the homogeneity of the collagen matrix is not yet fully understood.
