Abstract

With the development of the food processing industry, large quantities of mango stones are available at factory sites. Researches have shown that the stones, hitherto considered as waste, can be processed for making such products as pickle, flour, and starch, etc. A decorticator for separating hard and fibrous outer pericarp with low nutritive value from the inner kernel was developed. Optimum operating conditions for maximum performance efficiency are suggested. It was also determined through tests that decorticating efficiency was directly proportional to the number of raspbars and speed of the cylinder. Kernel loss was directly proportional to the air-flow rate of the blower and speed of the eccentric arrangement.
