Abstract

In this work, lightweight nylon of fishnet has alternate material for glass fiber and woven roving with polyester hybrid composite were studied. The projected composites for two and three layers of glass fiber, one and two layers of fishnet and one layer of woven roving were incorporated with polyester. Mechanical and water absorption behavior of these composites was evaluated according to ASTM standards. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) was carried out on the composites and it gives the various thermo mechanical properties. Scanning electron microscope studies were observed for various composites which reveal the interaction of reinforcement with polyester. The results showed that fishnet imparts the composites have considerable values of tensile, flexural and better impact properties. The DMA reveals storage modulus, loss modulus and mechanical damping values of the discarded fishnet composite has a comparable value with respect to glass fiber composite. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of glass fiber and discarded fishnet incorporated composites has significantly when compared to the glass fiber based composite. Analysis of variance is used as comparative studies of enhanced properties of glass fiber and discarded fishnet composites, thus increasing the scope of applications in south Indian catamarans. Hence, the reuse of discarded fishnet composites mitigates the problem of waste disposal.
