Abstract

Heart failure and hemodynamic deterioration in the course of acute myocardial infarction (MI) may be caused by several cardiac and noncardiac mechanisms (Table 1) (1). In this chapter, we will discuss the following three mechanical complications of acute MI: ventricular septal rupture, left ventricular free wall rupture, and acute mitral regurgitation.
