Abstract

1. Heat treatment (hardening in water from 930°C, tempering at 350°C) is the main method of strengthening steel 16KhSN. Preliminary deformation involving reduction up to 60% has little influence on its mechanical properties. 2. Drawing with ɛ=22% after strengthening heat treatment causes a considerable increase of σ0.2 and σu, decrease of uniform deformation and ductility under conditions of triaxial tension of steel 16KhSN. The increase of the strain-hardening coefficient and of the sensitivity of strength and ductility to the state of stress attests to the enhanced proneness of the steel to brittle failure.
