Abstract

Mechanical and tribotechnical properties of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) based composites filled with carbon fibers of various dimensions (nanometer—CNF, micrometer—SCF, millimeter—LCF) have been studied. It has been found that compositions loaded with 40 wt. % of carbon fibers of micron (200 µm) and millimeter (2 mm) sizes possess the best strength properties. The highest level of wear resistance was demonstrated by the composite “PPS + 40 wt. % SCF (70 µm)”. Composite based on three-component mixture “PPS + 25 wt. % SCF (70 µm) + 10 wt. % LCF (2 mm)” ensures increasing of wear resistance by 3.7 times at reduction of the coefficient of friction by a factor of 1.5. The reasons of the revealed regularities are discussed in terms of their further practical applications.
