Abstract

The main objective of this study is to assess the performance of TiC nanoparticles in epoxy resin and epoxy nanocomposites. The ultrasound mixing method was used to ensure that these nanoparticles were homogeneously dispersed into epoxy. Various mechanical and tribological testing was conducted for mechanical characteristics and the wear performance of epoxy Nanocomposites including three-point bending testing, Izod Impact Test and Ring Wear pin were made. Addition of TiC nanoparticles increased the bending strength and impact strength of nanocomposites. Furthermore it brings about a significant decrease in wear and friction factor of TiC nanoparticles into a low value epoxy resin matrix. The diffusion of TiC nanoparticles into the epoxy matrix and freight could be attributed to these effects.
