Abstract
Abstract This research aimed to improve properties of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) by melt blending with polyamide 12 (PA12) in the PBS/PA12 ratios of 100/0, 80/20, 70/30, 50/50, 30/70, 20/80, and 0/100 wt%. PBS and PA12 were immiscible blend which the PBS/PA12 70/30 and 50/50 wt% blends presented co-continuous morphology. Blending PA12 into PBS enhanced Young’s modulus following the rule of mixer, which PBS/PA12 50/50 wt% blend had the highest tensile strength and elongation at break. Nevertheless, impact strength was reduced indicating weak interfacial interaction. The melting temperatures were closed to those of neat polymers, however, the degradation temperature was reduced slightly.
