Abstract
Ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), with vinyl acetate contents of 60% or 80%, was used to improve the mechanical properties of poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV). Blends of PHBV/EVA were prepared with the ratios of 90:10, 70:30, and 50:50. Stress–strain results indicated that the tensile strength, elongation at break, Young's modulus, and toughness of PHBV blends could be adjusted by changing the composition of blends and miscibility. It was found that high elongation at break, ca. 200%, was obtained for PHBV/EVA80 (50:50).
