Abstract

This paper compares some mechanical and magnetic properties of amorphous FeCrPCSi ribbons and wires of the same composition. The tensile strength of the ribbons was found to be lower than that of the wires and the results were more widely spread. This spread was evaluated in terms of Weibull statistics. Polishing the edges of the ribbons improves the tensile strength and reduces the dispersion. Magnetic properties were investigated by measurement of saturation magnetization, Curie temperature and hysteresis loops. The influence of stress on the magnetic response of wires was evaluated. All the results indicate the importance of the preparation method on the properties of these amorphous alloys.
