Abstract

In order to optimize dowel bar designing in rigid pavement, double-layer structure model considering interlayer contact situation was established. The effect that geometry size, spatial position, combination with concrete and setting mode of dowel bar to joint load transfer capacity, internal stress of dowel bar, and stress of slab bottom was analyzed. The results showed that increasing the diameter and length of dowel bar cannot effectively enhance the capacity of load transfer coefficient; load transfer coefficient decreased linearly with increase of dowel bar vertical angle, grew exponentially with increase of dowel bar supporting modulus, and decreased with increase of dowel bar looseness. When an equal number of dowel bars was laid on wheel track belt or laid evenly along the transverse joint, transfer capacity was approximately the same, when the quantity of dowel bar reached a certain amount, transfer capacity didn't change significantly due to the setting position and layer.
