Abstract
The two standards chosen for the new generation networks (4G) are Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) [3GPP][LTE]. These standards meet the proposed requirements for the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). Some of the most important considerations included in the standard are Quality of Service (QoS), All IP, IPv6, mobility, handover and security. This thesis is focused on the IPv6/MPLS concept. This approach is considered as part of all IP. The concepts mentioned above (QoS, All IP, IPv6, etc.) are also included among the requirements for standardization. This thesis presents the integration of IPv6 protocols extensions and protocols of quality of service (MPLS, RSVP) in order to provide quality of service in next four-generation networks (4G). We have considered the integration in different scenarios controlling different metrics of QoS (Quality of Service) in mobile environments. The idea is to verify which interoperability protocols offer better quality of service. The System Architecture Evolution (SAE) is a project that seeks to define a new core component of the all-IP network called Evolved Packet Core (EPC). We can consider IPv6/MPLS as part of the development of the LTE standard included in the all-IP concept that allows us to meet some requirements of LTE, such as end-quality of service (MPLS, RSVP and Diffserv). SAE allows interoperability with existing technologies in both the core and access networks. As it is well known, all-IP network provides the so-called Best Effort quality of service. For this reason, in order to provide QoS to the LTE/SAE networks core and to the access networks, we propose the implementation of IPv6/MPLS into the Evolved Packet Core (EPC). According to the requirements proposed by the 3GPP for the standardization of 4G, LTE / SAE and WIMAX advanced complies with the requirements for 4G standard. LTE and WIMAX can operate in both the core and access network IPv6/MPLS.
