Abstract
The promotion of animal welfare has attracted much interest in developing countries including Malaysia. This article examines animal welfare in terms of the appropriate zoo regulations using both qualitative and quantitative research in evaluating its status in Malaysia. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among visitors at the National Zoo in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia seeking their responses on issues such as animal food/diet, cages/enclosures, the safety of animals, area environment, and visitors’ actions.
