Abstract

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the utility of a dual transducer ultrasonic probe for flow measurements in turbulent condition and to compare the performance of such a probe with a pulse transit time probe and an electromagnetic probe. For a single transducer ultrasonic probe, large errors in velocity measurement may result because the Doppler angle between the flow direction and the transducer axis is unknown. In a dual transducer probe, this angle can be accurately measured. Tests were conducting in both in-vitro and in-vivo conditions. Results show that the dual transducer probe gives the smallest velocity and volume flow rate measurements and can also be used to produce velocity profiles.
