Abstract

In this paper, for the first time, we demonstrate that the topological charge of a hard x-ray vortex can be measured by a single diffraction pattern from a triangular aperture. The x-ray vortex was produced by a spiral Fresnel zone plate (SFZP) with topological charges of ±1. The triangular aperture was placed in the proximity of the focal plane of the SFZP. Explicit diffraction patterns, which agreed well with the calculated results, were observed and they were rotated by 180° by inverting the sign of the topological charge.
