Abstract
The author describes a method of measuring the mean lifetime τ of thermal neutrons for specimens whose dimensions a r e commensurate with the thermal transport length. The method makes use of a pulsed neutron generator and is intended for determining τ for rocks by means of measurements on core samples. It can also be used to estimate the concentrations in rocks of elements with large thermal-neutron absorption cross sections.
