Abstract
This paper reports a work in progress, a research project being carried out at Object UK, to measure the effect of refactoring. As part of the project a refactoring toot is being developed using the Feature Driven Development (FDD) management process. On each timebox of the project, a suite of metrics is being collected to monitor (a) the amount of refactoring being carried out during development and (b) the effectiveness of the design changes. Once the project is completed, the data will be analysed for measures to indicate the success or otherwise of refactoring. The tools and methodology will then be available to apply to larger scale development projects.
