Abstract

This study aims to estimate the economic impact of the exhibitions' industry in Egypt through classifying the expenditure of visitors to the Cairo International Exhibition. The estimation uses the Input–Output model, in which context a survey was carried out to include foreign visitors and foreign exhibitors of the Cairo International Exhibition, in addition to exhibition organizers, depending upon data relevant to the touristic expenditure. Within this context, the exhibitions' industry expenditure multiplier in Egypt has been estimated on the basis of the input–output tables published by the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. The total Egyptian exhibitions' industry expenditure in 2016 was estimated to be L. E1.375 billion (US$155 million), but it has contributed to generating L. E 2.190 billion (US$247 million) as an output, 6,148 job opportunities, L. E 364.9 million (US$41.2 million) as personal income for the residents, and L. E 1.44 billion (US$162.1 million) as value added.
