Abstract
A procedure for measuring the cross-sectional areas of cotton fibers with an image analyzer was developed. The fibers were embedded with an ultra-low-viscosity . embedding medium and sectioned 1.5-μm thick; then the sections were stained with crystal violet. Measurement of 500 fibers per sample provided means that could be reproduced within ± 2.3%. Cross-sectional area was highly correlated with micronaire reading (r = 0.96).
