Abstract

Reliable and valid pain assessment is a prerequisite for effective pain treatment. This article reviews the psychometric strengths and weaknesses of available measures of pain intensity, pain affect, pain quality, pain location, pain’s temporal characteristics, and pain interference and makes specific recommendations regarding which measures of these domains should be used in persons with spinal cord injury and chronic pain.
