Abstract

Thc Devereux Scales of Mental Disorders is unique among child and adolescent behavior rating scales in that it provides an explicit methodology for evaluating treatment outcome. The approach utilizes a dual criterion of statistically reliable and clinically meaningful change which is used to operationally define five clinical outcomes: Optimal, Very Favorable, Favorable, Equivocal and Negative. The use of the Devereux Scales of Mental Disorders in evaluating treatment outcome at both the individual client and unit levels is presented. It is hoped that this methodology will assist mental health professionals in responding to the increasing demands for accountability and demonstrated efficacy in child and adolescent treatment.
