Abstract

In this pilot study, values for functional range of motion (FROM) at the hip were assessed for six female elite ballet dancers ranging from 18 to 30 years of age. The feasibility of the MOM© method of hip FROM goniometric assessment was determined so that it might be used to create normative tables of FROM for this population. Results indicate that four out of five end-positions were found to be reliably reproducible, and reliability across the three investigators was within clinically accepted values for four out of five end positions. A preliminary normative hip FROM table was generated that revealed both high and low FROM values within as well as across dancers.
