Abstract

A particle sizing and counting instrument capable of working with concentrations as high as 10 5 particles/cm 3 is described. The instrument measures inline in an optical, non-intrusive manner and has process control capabilities. Since testing high efficiency filters requires high input concentrations and since filter efficiency is a function of particle size, this instrument is well-suited for filter analysis. Results of several measurements on filters are shown, including how factors such as particle size, velocity, electrical charge and filter age influence the performance of a filter.
