Abstract

The Electron Stimulated Desorption Ion Angular Distribution (ESDIAD) method has been used to measure the dynamical behavior of admolecules on a Cu(110) surface. Two studies are reported: First a precursor NH 3 species to the chemisorbed NH 3 state was observed by adsorption at 32 K and the conversion to the chemisorbed state was witnessed at 55 K. ESDIAD was used to measure the configurational change, which occurs during the conversion. Second, anisotropic zero-point frustrated translational energy of chemisorbed CO was measured by time-of-flight ESDIAD.
